A personal favourite of mine, Harpo Marx’s magnificent letterhead was a 40th birthday gift jokingly devised by his friend Alexander Woollcott—but Harpo loved it so much, he went on to use it. His middle name wasn’t actually Duer; Woollcott added it as a playful nod to their close friend, writer Alice Duer Miller. All three were members of the Algonquin Round Table, the legendary gathering of writers, critics, and actors known for their wit.
